Digital Culture Transformation by Democratizing Automation

The Citizen-led Automation Program was inspired by the organization’s vision of ‘Bot for Every Person’. The idea was to empower all associates in Digital Business Operations with tools to automate routine tasks and focus on core value-added activities.

Cognizant partnered with major players (UiPath and Automation Anywhere) to provide the Citizen Developer suite of products. Citizen Developers were given the tools they needed to help them at each stage of development including process discovery, build, manage, run and measure progress. The program adopted ‘Hub and Spoke’ model which had a federated structure and distributed responsibilities. Customized skilling and certification program implemented. Robust governance structure and agile bot deployment methodologies was rolled out. Dedicated associate communication and engagement team was formed to focus on defining the strategy and gamification. The program generated 1,300+ Citizen bots, 200,000+ hours of savings and improved productivity.

Establishing the fitment of client account for the program was undertaken and a list of 46 clients were shortlisted on the basis of technology platform availability and customer’s appetite to embrace the program. Internally, the program construct was socialized with heads of business units to gain stakeholder confidence and commitment. Following that, there was a communication series the elucidated the program objectives, knowledge series that talked about the products and features, training and a message from global head of DBO.
