Innovation Execution Project Through its Process Excellence Program

Moody’s is an integrated global risk assessment firm that empowers organizations to make better decisions. Its data, analytical solutions, and insights help decision-makers identify opportunities and manage the risks of doing business with others.
 
One of the key strategic imperatives of the company is to make it easier to get things done through world-class operations. In support of this goal, one of the Finance organization’s key strategic objectives is focused on driving operating effectiveness and efficiency for itself and its business partners.
 
In February 2020, under the sponsorship of the CFO, the Finance organization established the Process Excellence Program (PEP), with the objective of providing significant value to the organization by enabling it to create greater efficiency, enhance quality and achieve better business outcomes. PEP’s operating model focuses on scaling the ability to drive operational effectiveness across the organization by empowering and coaching employees to lead their own process improvement initiatives, as well as leveraging a central team to lead more complex Moody’s-wide projects.
 
The Process Excellence Program aims to make it easier to get things done at Moody’s by driving process effectiveness. To support this objective, PEP has established three primary pillars:
1. Enable the business to drive process improvement results by providing key learning & development resources 
2. Drive results through centralized project leadership and business advisory services in both process and automation and
3. Track and report out on project results through Key Performance Indicators (KPIs).
 
Since the inception of the program, 483 employees across the company have completed 732 hours of process excellence training. The Finance organization represents the largest population of trained employees, with 257 employees (61% of the organization) and 520 hours of training completed. Teams have reduced cycle time by 867 days - a 33% reduction in comparison to the baseline and eliminated over 13,000 hours of non-value-add activities - an improvement of 47% and an equivalent reduction of 6.7 full-time employees.
