Read this Interview with Gauthier Duval, from Veryable, one of our Speakers, for the Supply Chain Planning Live.

BTOES Insights Question: Briefly describe your job role in your organization, and what your top priorities are right now?

Gauthier Answer:

I head the Lean Center of Excellence at Veryable, and our role is to support manufacturers and logistic companies in their lean journeys. We’re especially focused on small and medium enterprises and as a tech company, we pay special attention to how technology will impact their operations. The CoE is a new function, so my priorities right now are twofold: first, to build new content and, second, to spread the word about how we think next-generation manufacturing will evolve.

BTOES Insights Question: What do you expect to be the most critical initiatives you (or your clients) need to focus on over the next 12 months?

Gauthier Answer:

We have all been hit with high-impact events that nobody saw coming. If there's one thing that we've learned, it's that building ever-greater flexibility in operations is a very practical priority. You can invest a lot of time and effort into planning, but that remains an abstraction until actual events lead to action (or not). When you invest in flexibility, on the other hand, you are acting right now to strengthen your business. We believe that’s the correct choice.

BTOES Insights Question: What do you see as the biggest trends affecting your organization (or your clients) over the next 12 to 18 months?

Gauthier Answer:

We think there are three big trends: first, the digital transformation is trending modular and decentralized, which a great for businesses. Second, the labor market is suffering from worker disengagement. That's nothing new, but what's different over the past several years is that workers are acting on their dissatisfaction. They're more likely to leave jobs, but also, some of them have left the labor market--at least, the traditional labor market. At Veryable, we think we offer a solution to many of these workers. Third, the B2B marketplaces will change the way lean operates...that, of course, is the subject of my talk.
