BTOES Insights Question: Briefly describe your job role in your organization, and what your top priorities are right now?
 
Dr. Ulrich Answer: 
In my role as Head of Innovation Facilitation & Digitalization, I am responsible to support the Roche organization to build up innovation and digital capabilities to support our digital transformation. We have set up multiple innovation programs to stimulate innovation and intrapreneurship. In addition we are building up capabilities to become more agile and digital. We are working very closely with external partners and customers to build a digital innovation ecosystem.
 
BTOES Insights Question: What do you expect to be the most critical initiatives you (or your clients) need to focus on over the next 12 months?

Dr. Ulrich Answer: 

Digital transformation is key for most companies and industries. How can companies successfully unlock digital and innovation capabilities in their organization? Firstly build up internal capabilities and partner with the external ecosystem to be successful in your transformation journey. It's critical to create partnerships with digital companies and understand the digital needs of your customers. A customer-centric approach to co-design solutions in collaboration with your customers and. I recommend creating a digital mindset within your workforce, become more agile and customer-centric to achieve your goals.

BTOES Insights Question: What do you see as the biggest trends affecting your organization (or your clients) over the next 12 to 18 months?

Dr. Ulrich Answer:

The biggest trends are within the digital space, harnessing the power of artificial intelligence, automation and digitalization. There is a clear focus on creating a digital customer experience and providing new digital products and solutions that solve your customer’s biggest needs. To build your digital strategy and operations, your operating model should be adopted by working more agile and hiring employees with the right digital mindset. We have chosen to run innovation acceleration programs, to support the development of new digital solutions and unlock the potential of our employees. In addition, companies should focus on building a strong digital ecosystem, with your customers, startups, and digital partners to easily access new technologies and validate technologies directly with your customers.

Alain is a trained Agile coach/transformation lead with experience in human and patient centric design of healthcare and has been working more than 12 years at Roche in different roles.

He has extensive Innovation Management experience (setting up innovation lab, innovation programs, open innovation, crowdsourcing, knowledge management, innovation culture)In addition he is leading an innovation network at Roche to support the business to innovate and manage innovation programs to support digital transformation at Roche.

Alain has set up an Innovation and agility program to build new capabilities in the organization so support the organizational transformation. This program focuses on Agile ways of working, incl. rapid prototyping, co-creation with customers. This program supports our company’s transformation to move the organization to a more self-organized organization.
