The gap between strategic vision and execution is problematic for many businesses.  Furthermore, disruption and need for transformation are no longer singular events in today's businesses.  We need to rethink transformation as a continuous process.  In this workshop we'll explore the philosophy of Continuous Business Transformation and the DOITS method for strategy execution.

Key takeaways:

  • Setting up for success: Establish a vision with enough flexibility to ensure centralized command and decentralized control.
  • The core tenets that enable Continuous Business Transformation
  • An overview of the DOITS method
  • The DOITS method in action: A real world look at disruptive strategy execution from in the trenches.  We'll explore an innovation project from vision to reality.

Setting up for success

Bridging the gap between vision and execution requires a flexible plan.  In this track we’ll cover the recipe for success.  A flexible plan should include centralized command and decentralized control.

Centralized command extends from a universal vision for the future.

Decentralized control gives flexibility to the people that need to turn the vision into reality.

Core Tenets

We’ll cover a few of the core tenets that enable continuous business transformation.

We’ll see transformation through a continuous point of view rather than the traditional one-off.   We’ll also cover the difference between deliberate and emergent strategy as well as the concept of “Fail Fast, Fail Small.”

The DOITS Method

We’ll cover each phase of the DOITS Method.  This is an iterative method based on the classic PDCA cycle but built to be agile.  It concentrates on delivering strategy and innovation execution in transactional businesses.

DOITS is an acronym for:

  • Define
  • Observe
  • Improve/Innovate
  • Test
  • Sustain/Scale

The DOITS Method in Action

We’ll wrap up our time by exploring a real world example of the DOITS method.  We’ll utilize the new Self-Service Truck Rental model that was piloted here in Orlando to provide context for the methodology.
