Across industries leaders face strong headwinds around “Strategic Transformation, with nothing more pressing than knowing what levers within a business will drive more strategic value  ( technology, Innovation, and emerging competitors/products, etc.). Knowing that transformation success rates hover below 30%[1], Benjamin-Josiah Huff, Matthew Shejen and Gary Simms, Sr. developed an interconnected strategy ecosystem and corresponding playbook to target where to mature strategy competencies and capabilities which drive measurable and sustainable outcomes leading to realized value (i.e., cost, risk, and customer satisfaction). The “House of Strategy” assessment serves as a foundational element articulating measurable relationships between business desires and business/company capabilities. Within the “Living Strategy Ecosystem” poster, the team defines the base elements of the Strategy Ecosystem, interaction points, the role of other factors like people and culture, and how to assess and mature the strategy ecosystem. To maximize value of the strategy ecosystem, the poster demonstrates how the following three components of the “Living Strategy Ecosystem” can be used to define a clear roadmap of strategic transformation:

  1. The “Strategy Ecosystem” infographic helps establish a relational construct to link established business measurements between strategy competencies (Market Intelligence, Strategy, Execution, and Measurement) and eleven company capabilities (Insights & Analytics, Disruptive Innovation, Incremental Innovation, People, Culture & Communications, Process Maturity, Technology Maturity, Risk, Cost, Customer Satisfaction, and Quality).

  2. The maturity self-assessment model for the capabilities and competencies produces an adjusted business prioritization that in turn adjusts the “House of Strategy” diagram correlations.  The result of this correlation reflects the company’s current state “Living Strategy Ecosystem.”

  3. The “House of Strategy” serves as the foundation upon which a business can see how the possible value pools intersect with competencies and capabilities.  With a clear mapping of potential realized value, a business can create a more defined “future state.”

The maturity self-assessment, with the “House of Strategy” targets, illuminates key opportunities to focus company resources to maximize value of the strategy ecosystem and create a clear Strategic Transformation roadmap.
