Global Supply Chain & Logistics Transformation: MSA Safety's Clarity on Roles and Renewed Focus on Talent

MSA Safety recognized an opportunity improve the understanding of career trajectories and career planning efficiencies in its Operations business function because of the data from its associate-driven biannual engagement survey. Through this optimization, the organization intended to improve employee satisfaction and retention rates within the function.

MSA launched the Global Supply Chain and Logistics Transformation project, which aimed to clarify roles within the functions and create a global career lattice. A cross-functional team of global leaders structured a four-phased redesign process to remove inefficiencies in role titles and organizational structure. This new structure would create a uniform organizational convention for the global Supply Chain and Logistics teams.

This extensive two-year project used data from internal teams, updated company-wide strategy initiatives, benchmarking data, and associate feedback to develop the streamlined organizational structure.

This project resulted in an 80 percent reduction in global job disparity in the Supply Chain and Logistics teams and solidified 27 standard job descriptions. To date, employee satisfaction has increased three percent, and more than 10 percent of associates have been promoted within their career progression plan.

Overall, associates in the Supply Chain and Logistics teams are better equipped to plan a rewarding career at MSA, more likely to continue in Operations, and more satisfied with their career path because of this initiative.

MSA prides itself on its continuous improvement mindset and strives to achieve operational excellence in all business functions. The Global Supply Chain and Logistics Transformation project is one example of continuous improvement in action.
